Ferrari 312 F.1 1968

This car raced in the 1968 F.1 season.

At the wheel were Chris Amon, and the young newcomer to the Scuderia, Jacky Ickx, who made his debut in 1967 at Nurburgring, when he set third fastest time  overall in practice, with his Matra F.2, behind Clark’s Lotus and Hulme’s Brabham.

Chris Amon made history as one of the most unlucky drivers of all time, at least for his Formula 1 career. During the May 12 1968 Spanish GP, he was leading the race, but was forced to retire due to a blown fuse that locked the fuel pumps. After the race was over, chief mechanic Giulio Borsari changed the fuse on the car by the side of the track, started the engine and came back to the pits with the car running properly.

We could say a lot of things regarding Jacky Ickx, remembering his Le Mans successes, but maybe it is enough to say that he is among few great Formula 1 drivers that for different reasons never won the title, a title that he earned for sure.

Ickx won his first F.1 race in this very car at Rouen, 1968.
